Midwives Alliance Conference in Tennessee, October 14-17, 2010

My job on the Midwives Alliance board is to oversee the organizing of our annual conferences. We usually have 300-400 attendees with both national and international speakers. It is a fun and educational time for midwives to gather together and share, laugh, and learn from each other. This year I had the lovely privilege of helping give Ina May Gaskin the MANA Sage Femme award. This award is given every year to an elder midwife who has devoted her life to serving women, babies, and families. I knitted her the spiral shawl she is wearing in the above picture where we are hugging. The top picture is of all the Farm midwives who were at the conference. We wanted to honor them as well. Geradine Simkins, MANA President, and myself are also in the picture, not to confuse us with the Farm gals.

Ina May is such an amazing story teller, definitely a woman whose feet you can just sit at and listen to for hours and hours When she starts talking, it is hard to get her to stop...how can you take a microphone away from Ina May? It was a little nerve wracking though as the conference schedule got further and further behind and it was my job to keep it on track :)
Thanks Ina May and all the Farm Midwives for all of your wisdom
