Midwives Alliance Conference 2009

I just returned from the Annual Midwives Alliance of North America conference, where just over 500 midwives and other birth workers from around the US, Canada, Mexico, and other Latin countries gathered to share their knowledge, experience, and hearts for 3 days. I had a fabulous time seeing friends I only see once a year and meeting new friends. I got to talk to Ina May Gaskin and Eugene DeClercq and Suzanne Arms; Hear a very inspiring address from Sobonfu Some; Walk every morning along the beach with friends; Hear about centering pregnancy prenatal care and how I might fit that into working with my mamas and families; Dance till my breath was gone and my knees ached to an amazing Brazilian band; and gather with some of the most brilliant and caring midwifery minds I know of who I am so honored to serve with on the Midwives Alliance of North America Board of Directors. The Midwives Alliance Board works tirelessly to help bring attention to the Midwives Model of Care, to promote evidence based practice through the Division of Research, and to provide a central gathering place for ALL midwives at the annual conferences.
In this picture below I am joined by Gera Simkins ,MANA president, in the middle, and
Maria Iorillo, MANA 1st VP, on the right.
