Socks

Last night I was at a birth and as the mother was going through transition, beginning to push, I walked into the living room and two Grandmas and a Great Aunt were folding laundry.  It was the fourth baby to be born into this family, third home birth and it all seemed routine to the extended family, keeping their distance, given mom the space to birth, yet being ever present and helpful....the perfect combination.  I loved seeing these socks, all unmatched, laying on the couch, waiting patiently for it's pairing, sized for a school age girl, four year old boy and another 2 year old brother.  Early in the evening, one of the Grandmas had made a giant bowl of noodles with veggies to share.  When the baby was born, they waited patiently until mom and dad were ready for them to see the newest little one, another boy, another blessing, more socks will be coming to this home.
