Announcements

Thought I would post this email I sent to clients this morning so others could join in support as well.

Hi Everyone,
I hope everyone is enjoying the spring and that your hearts are happy :)
There are three things I want to let you know about:
First....
On May 5th, International Midwives Day, I am organizing a walk around Town Lake to help raise awareness about Midwives, what we do and how we can help decrease maternal mortality here and around the the world. This is in response to the International Confederation of Midwives, who is encouraging the organization of walks in cities all around the world, on May 5th.  You can read more about ICM and the "Walk to Durban" at International Midwives Day Walk.  In June, the triennial ICM Congress is convening in Durban, South Africa, where 2000 midwives from all over the world will gather and walk a final 5 K into the city.

I am hoping that many of you can join us on Thursday, May 5th!
Please spread the word to all other families and  midwife supporters to gather at

10 am Thursday, May 5th
at the Town Lake trail, south of the river at the Congress bridge, near the water station and the little, freshly re-filled pond with the fountain.

We will walk the 3 mile loop, making small detours up and down Lamar and Congress so people can see us more!
Babies, children, grandparents, pets, and all welcome to join...
Please bring large signs to carry in support of Midwives, the Midwifery Model of Care, and how midwives help keep moms and babies safe.

I hope many of you can come!!

Second...
Illysa and I have been training hard for the upcoming triathlon on April 16 in San Marcos.  We would love for any of you who can to make a donation (small $5- $10 is just fine) to Mamas of Color Rising.  This group is doing great work to increase knowledge about natural birth, midwives, and home birth and access to care for women of color here in Austin.  The donation is tax deductible.  Checks can be written to Mamas of Color Rising and mailed to either:
Christy Tashjian
9001 Oak Valley Rd
Austin, TX 78737
or
Illysa Foster
1210 Rosewood Ave.
Austin, Texas 78702

We really appreciate your support in our efforts both in the triathlon and the in raising money for this cause :)

Third...
I will not be at the First Wednesday lunch at Freddie's in April but I am hoping many people will still gather.  It is nice to go for a walk with the group at 10:30 at Town Lake and then head to Freddie's for lunch.

The details again are:
Client walk, every Wednesday at 10:30
Meet under the Mopac bridge on the north side of the river near the water station
babies, children and other family members welcome!

At noon,
Lunch at Freddie's
1703 South 1st Street
Austin, TX 78704
next to Jovita's
there is a great outdoor eating area with a fun place for the kids to play.

Love,
Christy
