This picture was taken today off the porch of the MotherBloom office. This mama turkey hatched out 10 baby chicks a few weeks ago. We just started letting them roam around 2 days ago and these babies are doing a fine job of keeping up with the Turkey Mom. And Turkey Mom is doing a fine job of keeping unwanted guests away from her babies. Maternal instincts are maternal instincts no matter what the species. At first I thought all the chicks were turkeys, but as they get older, I can tell that 3 of the 10 chicks are guineas. A female guinea must have laid some eggs in the turkey nest right along side the bigger turkey eggs. These different fowl do not seem to matter to this turkey mom as she treats all the babies the same.
Cute turkeys! I like your new blog format -- soooo much better than the last one. Though I'm sure you're keeping this mostly midwife related, I would love to see some crafting here, too! How'd that doll turn out?
