Midwifery Legislation Day at the Texas Capitol in Austin

Please join midwives and midwife supporters from across the State of Texas as we visit our state legislators at the Capitol on Monday, February 23, 2009. Our goal is to remind legislators that the Midwives Model of Care© should be available to all child-bearing women, both in and out of a hospital setting.

The Texas Medical Association spends a million dollars a year on 26 paid lobbyists who make sure legislators hear their agenda and take their opinions seriously. Midwives rely on YOU to express your opinions and to spread the word that midwifery care is important to Texans. In 2007, we had nearly 150 participants come from around the state to talk with lawmakers about midwifery. Increasing that number in 2009 shows our elected officials that Texans value midwives more than ever!

Register online at texansformidwifery.

(Registering prior to February 16th is appreciated.)

A continental breakfast will be provided at 9:30 a.m. followed by a brief orientation. Then we will walk a short distance to the Capitol where we will visit with legislators and/or their staff members. Midwives, supporters, and family members (moms and dads, patient children and babies, grandparents, etc.) are all welcome to participate. We will visit legislative offices in groups of 2-4, and we will discuss where to go and what to say at the orientation. Maps and additional information will be provided to registrants.
