As some of you know, I have recently set out on an adventure to collect pictures of women's bellies. All sorts of bellies: young, old, pregnant, flat, flabby, smooth, wrinkly, you get the idea....This idea came to my friend Karen and I one day as we were walking to (or maybe it was from) school with our daughters. She, being a sex educator and I, of course, being a midwife, think about bodies all the time. We got to talking about how different all women's bodies are and how some people are really uncomfortable with how their bodies look, especially it seems their bellies. How this uncomfortableness got started, who knows? Our bellies are so important. Think about how many organs are in there to help keep us alive and kicking. Emotions can also be stored in there so much so that sometimes when people are getting abdominal massages, they suddenly start crying or laughing. As we were walking, Karen, blogging fanatic that she is said, "we should do a blog!" Next thing ya know, we have 50 bellies posted on the
the belly project blog and are getting many, many visits daily; one day last week topping out somewhere around 1400! Please help spread the word about
the belly project and that all bellies are fabulous!!
